Course Description

Academic writing can be very different from other types of written English. By introducing three types of academic essays, this course aims to support you in learning the basics of academic writing and develop your English language writing skills. In this course, you will be learning about the stages in academic essay writing and produce three different types of academic essays. It offers a range of activities that provide opportunities for you to explore how to organise an essay, write in an academic style, use tools to evaluate your own writing and participate in online discussions.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Write effective introductions and conclusions.

  2. Create effective topic sentences and thesis statements.

  3. Transfer information from non-linear sources to a linear text.

  4. Plan and write compare/contrast, cause/effect persuasive/argument essays.

  5. Write a clear and concise email.
